Réda vit chez ses parents dans un quartier bourgeois d'Alger, et occupe un poste dans la plus grande entreprise d’hydrocarbures du pays que dirige son père, Youcef, un homme charismatique et autoritaire. Mais sous ce vernis de réussite apparent, Réda dissimule un mal-être profond : il vit dans l’ombre de son père et ne sait pas lui dire non. Son frère Fayçal mène au contraire une rébellion ouverte contre Youcef, et finit par quitter définitivement le domicile familial, laissant Réda face à sa solitude et sa frustration. Un jour le père meurt et un événement inattendu se produit : le reflet de Réda disparaît du miroir.
