La jeune Monique quitte le préventorium où le docteur Delaunay l'a soignée avec amour. Retour pénible. Sa mère Denise vit avec un beau gosse peu recommandable, Eugène, qui se laisse facilement entretenir et, à l'occasion, n'hésiterait pas à voler. Il tourne autour de Monique, excité par sa fraîcheur, jusqu'au jour où, soupçonné de la disparition d'un truand, il finit par être abattu. Monique retrouvera le docteur Delaunay, à la grande satisfaction de son tuteur Gilbert, dit Patte-en-moins, propriétaire du bistrot du coin.
