Italy, after the promulgation of the racial laws (1938). Luciano, a Fascist-abiding restaurateur, nonetheless believes he can still live by his own rules inside his business. However, everything changes when Anna, a girl with a dangerous secret, starts to work at his restaurant.

The Shadow of the Day is a 2022 Italian film written and directed by Giuseppe Piccioni, starring Riccardo Scamarcio and Benedetta Porcaroli, set in Italy in 1938. Piccioni wrote the screenplay with Gualtiero Rosella and Annick Emdin. It is produced by Scamarcio through his Lebowski production company, in association with Rai Cinema.
